I attended Elevated Work Platform training (presented by John Parker) along with approximately fourteen other staff members from our company. This training exceeded my expectations. John’s training style was very professional and practical. John constantly engaged the class by providing real life and realistic scenarios and this facilitated a very educational and productive discussion. Many training courses are often overloaded with technical jargon and information that isn’t relevant to the task at hand. The course presented by John was not an average run-of-the-mill training session. John is obviously committed and passionate about delivering effective training and his approach and delivery methods get to the heart of the matter; he put things into perspective and provided insight to everyone (including some experienced plant operators) about relevant hazards and risks associated with operating an EWP. I was particularly impressed with the focus on emergency/rescue; the use of ground controls and emergency lowering procedures; optimal positioning of EWP; properly assessing the ground/surface conditions, etc. I’ve spoken to others who attended this training and they all made positive comments. Thank you John for providing such a high calibre training session that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on those who participated.

Dear John, I would like to take this opportunity to thank yourself for assisting Fairfield Services recently with the VOC training provided for our site employees at the Laing O’ Rourke, M and A project Fortitude Valley. The purpose of the training was to ensure our employees were competent in the operation of the EWP equipment and to Verify the Competency of our employees back against a criteria of questions as well as the practical observation and witnessing of operation of the equipment. As you would be aware I attended the training, primarily to access the adequacy and content of the course and to give me comfort our employees are properly trained. I was very impressed with the detail and content of the course and feel your delivery re-enforced the hazards and risks associated with operating the equipment, this was enhanced by the interaction of the employees. I know some of the apprentices were not aware of the potential for the EWPs to roll over and this was very well covered in the examples of crossing kerb and uneven concrete. It was obvious to me your past experience with EWP equipment enabled you to push home the message. I spoke to a number of the employees and received positive feedback on your delivery and points covered. As discussed we will deliver this course progressively to all our sights.

As I mentioned, I have used elevated work platforms on numerous occasions, without any training, as have most of the staff members who have taken part in your course. After consulting with staff who have recently taken your course, the general consensus is that it was well worth the effort.
